Honeygo Village Dentistry - Oral Surgery
Oral Surgery is the area of dentistry that treats diseases that affect the head, neck, face, and jaws. Most often when discussing oral surgery at our office, we're referring to extractions, including wisdom teeth, as well as procedures such as bone grafting, and dental implant placement.
Tooth extractions refer to the procedure of removing a tooth from its socket. A local anesthetic is given and in some cases nitrous oxide gas (laughing gas) is used to make the procedure more comfortable.
One common oral surgery procedure is the extraction of the third molars (wisdom teeth). These teeth usually erupt in early adulthood. Many people do not have enough room for them to successfully erupt, causing them to push on other teeth or become impacted. This can cause harm to other surrounding teeth and/or pain; leaving extraction as the best treatment. Depending on the circumstances, one of our general dentists may extract these teeth. We also work with some of the best oral surgeons in the area, if your specific needs require such expertise.
Bone grafting is often performed to preserve extraction sites, so there is sufficient bone to place dental implants either at the time of the extraction or at a subsequent visit.
